Clinical Core
Project type
Research Core
Location
UT MD Anderson Cancer Center
The Clinical Core provides a bridge between laboratory research and real-world patient care through an unprecedented prospective biobank.
Comprehensive Biobank
This core manages an integrated collection of human specimens, including serum, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) samples, and tissue biopsies from cancer patients with mucormycosis.
Fungal Repository
It maintains glycerol stocks of clinical Mucorales isolates to be used for genomic studies and as a resource for testing new anti-virulence agents.
Experimental Controls
To ensure the specificity of research findings, the core also collects samples from control groups, including patients with invasive aspergillosis, bacterial pneumonia, and high-risk patients without acute infections.
Clinical Database
Specimens are linked to a comprehensive clinical database containing host-, infection-, treatment-, and outcome-related variables to facilitate multivariable prognostic modeling.
