Biography

Dr Kontoyiannis is a major thought leader in clinical and experimental mycology and has had a funded wet lab for the last 25 years. Dr. Kontoyiannis has authored over 700peer-reviewed manuscripts and has given over 400 lectures in national/ international conferences and academic institutions. He has an H index of 142 and over 85500 citations. His research group is credited for many and sustained contributions to clinical, translational and experimental mycology and in infections in cancer patients in general. He is the president-elect of the Mycoses Study Group and Education Consortium (2024-2026) and past president- elect of Immunocompromised Host Society (2016-2018) and the recipient of many national and international prestigious awards and memberships in honorary medical and scientific societies such as AAAS, AAM and AAP. He is the leader of the European Confederation of Medical Mycology (ECMM) Diamond Excellence in Mycology Center at MD Anderson Cancer Center (see also synopsis).

Dr. Kontoyiannisis part of the MUCOR_ADVANCE team and is the PI for the Clinical Core and Project 3 studying novel immunotherapy approaches for the treatment of mucormycosis.
