Biography

Dr. Eman Youssef Gouda is a CIRM Postdoctoral Fellow in the Divisions of Infectious Diseases and Pediatrics at the Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. She earned her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from Beni-Suef University and has extensive expertise in host–pathogen interactions, fungal pathogenesis, and regenerative medicine. Her research focuses on pulmonary mucormycosis caused by Rhizopus delemar, utilizing human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived lung models to investigate fungal invasion, epithelial injury, and tissue repair. As a member of the MUCOR_ADVANCE consortium, Dr. Youssef leads Project 2, where she develops innovative stem cell-based air–liquid interface and organ-on-chip models that closely mimic human lung physiology. Her work integrates transcriptomics, stem cell biology, and advanced bioengineering approaches to study mucormycosis while reducing reliance on animal models. Her long-term goal is to establish an independent research program dedicated to fungal diseases and regenerative therapies.
