Biography
Dr. Lubna Rehman is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Kontoyiannis Mycology Laboratory, Department of Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and Employee Health at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Her research focuses on host immune responses to invasive fungal infections, particularly invasive pulmonary aspergillosis and mucormycosis in patients with hematologic malignancies.
Dr. Rehman obtained her PhD in Zoology from Aligarh Muslim University, India, in 2021. She completed postdoctoral training in cancer immunotherapy at MD Anderson In the department of Lymphoma and Myeloma before joining the Kontoyiannis lab in 2026. Her current work includes checkpoint blockade strategies in preclinical mucormycosis models, a bioengineered 3D decellularized lung scaffold platform, and spectral flow cytometry profiling of antifungal immune responses. She has received national research fellowships from the Government of India and is a shared first author on publications in Blood and Blood Advances (2025).
Dr. Rehman is part of the MUCOR ADVANCE team, contributing to preclinical mouse modeling of invasive pulmonary mucormycosis, immune checkpoint blockade studies, and development of a bioengineered 3D lung scaffold platform to study leukemia-associated immune impairment during invasive fungal disease.
