Biography
Dr. Teny M. John is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases, Infection Control and Employee Health at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas. His research focuses on infections in immunocompromised and cancer patients, with emphasis on invasive fungal infections—including mucormycosis—antifungal stewardship, and novel diagnostics spanning volatile organic compounds (VOCs), proteomics, and molecular methods.
Dr. John earned his MBBS from Government Medical College, Kottayam, India, and completed internal medicine residency and an infectious diseases fellowship at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. His work at MD Anderson currently spans exhaled-breath biomarkers for infection and cytokine release syndrome, clinical metagenomics for pneumonia in hematologic malignancy, and the epidemiology and outcomes of invasive mold infections. Dr. John has received research funding from Illumina, HESI THRIVE, and Scynexis.
Dr. John is a Co-Investigator on the MUCOR_ADVANCE team, responsible for screening, enrolling, and longitudinally following study patients.
